The PHS FFA students presented information about their program to our Dpod students today. The PHS students did a great job! My heart is full watching our former students! Good afternoon! I hope you are all doing well on this beautiful Friday afternoon! This email is being designed to update you regarding the proposed Hybrid Model for grades 7 and 8. The survey data has been reviewed by teachers, administration and the Board of Education. The results of the data reveal mixed positions on the concept of a Hybrid Plan. The review of the responses shows a balance between parents supporting and those reluctant to go to a Hybrid Model at this time. Given this balance between moving to a Hybrid Model and moving forward as the school schedule stands, district administration and teachers support continuing with the current schedule and not moving ahead with the Hybrid Model. I want to thank each and every one of you for filling out the survey and being honest about where you stand. Your input is valuable in the decision making process. I think the junior high has a good hybrid plan ready to be put in place if there is ever a need for it this year. Thank you so much for all that you do for your child(ren). Hello P.C.S. Families, The first day of school is almost here. We can’t wait to see you! There are a couple of things you need to know before Thursday. First, all P.C.S. students in grades 3, 5, and 7 will attend school in person on Thursday, August 20. Grades 4, 6, and 8 will be doing remote learning at home that day. If you haven’t already, you will be receiving your remote lesson in the mail. If you do not receive the lesson, don’t worry, we will take care of it when you are here on Friday. On Friday, August 21, grades 4, 6, and 8 will attend in person, and 3, 5, and 7 will be doing remote learning at home. Their lessons will be given to them on Thursday. Next, there will be a few changes to the pickup procedures. Each grade will be given a time that they will go out for pick up. We need parents to show up at the time scheduled to pick up your student. Students will not be out until his/her scheduled time, so if you arrive early, you will be asked to pull into the parking area until it is your child’s scheduled time. We will use the following schedule: Grades Time 5 and 8 1:05 4 and 7 1:15 3 and 6 1:25 Note: If you have a child in C and D pod, you will pick them up on the C pod side. Return to Play Conditioning has started for PHS athletes and they will be using the PHS track M-W-F from 7:45-9:30 A.M. and M-TU-TH-F from 5:00-8:00 P.M. until further notice. The track will be closed to the community during those times to allow our athletes to use the facilities. We will keep you informed of any changes to those times. PCS Parents, We want to thank you for all the time you have taken to help your child with these educational packets. This is not the way we thought our year would go, but you have all been fantastic! We have been busy sorting and assessing the final sets of packets. ***All packets must be completed and turned in for your child to receive a 4th quarter letter grade. If students are missing any packets, or parts of packets, they will receive an “I” (incomplete) on their report card. Once the packets are completed, turned in, and assessed, the “I” will be replaced with a letter grade. All packets must be turned in no later June 17. This is the final deadline for taking packets. *** As we assess the packets, we are sending packets back to students who did not complete part or all of a packet. Please read the notes included with these incomplete packets. If your child is still missing packet work, once the work is complete, you can drop it off in the container by the main entrance. We will continue to have our bins out daily from 8-3. Any unfinished packets can be dropped off in the bin. Dpod 6-8 students: Fourth-quarter grades will consist of packets 2, 3, and 4. Good afternoon!! I hope you're all having a great week! I have some 8th grade graduation information! Mrs. Greger and I will be at PCS on May 12 from 4:30-6:30. Mrs. Greger will be handing out registration packets. These packets have information about classes along with the document to choose classes for the freshman year. It is very important that these packets get picked up. I will have the graduation gowns. The students were measured for the gowns earlier in the year. The gowns were then ordered but no money was collected. The gowns are $20 each and that fee will be collected when the gown is picked up. Graduation: Graduation will take place throughout the day on May 20 and May 21. The hours are 10AM-7PM. The recognitions will be scheduled 10 minutes apart. Parents will be receiving a call from the school to schedule a time to bring their child in for the picture and diploma. Students and families are to abide by the following: Students, and only their immediate family members who are staying at home together, will report at their designated time to the front of Pikeland Community School. Families should use the front, main entrance to PCS. Upon arrival, the student may exit the car individually, in his/her gown, to receive his/her diploma and get a picture taken. (We will contact the family, or mail the photo, once the photo is ready.) At no time can anyone else exit the vehicle. Once the student has been photographed and received their diploma, he/she are to return to the vehicle and depart from the school grounds. When the student gets out of the vehicle, his/her name will be announced and the student will pick the diploma up off of the table. Please note that the table will be sanitized between students. We will help you in any way possible. We wanted to send a reminder that we have a packet pick up today, Friday, May 1. Pick up time is 2pm-6pm at the front of PCS. Please use the "Dpod" entrance for Dpod students and the main entrance for Cpod students. If you have students in both ends, you have the choice of which entrance you want to use. Tomorrow, Wednesday, April 1 is food pick-up day in all of our regular locations from 4:30-6:00! All families with Pikeland Students can pick up Snack Pack food bags. Pikeland Families, Earlier today, Governor Pritzker issued an executive order requiring residents to “stay at home” effective Saturday, March 21 at 5:00 pm, through the end of April 7. As part of the Governor’s order, he announced that school will remain closed, with a new tentative reopening date of April 8. We recognize that this development may raise questions about the impact on students, staff, and families. We anticipate further guidance and details from the Illinois State Board of Education next week, and will update you when we know more. During this time, we will continue to make food through our Snack Pack program available to students and are working to increase what we can safely offer in the next two weeks. Our district covers 326 square miles and delivering hot and cold foods to all of our communities is a challenge. We are continuing to work with our stakeholders to find additional ways to safely serve our students. We will have an announcement early next week about our Wednesday Snack Pack deliveries. In addition, the governor has made it clear that, while he’s serious about using social distancing to slow the spread of COVID-19, he wants residents to still be able to work, shop at grocery stores, put gas in their cars, take walks outside and get medication from the pharmacy. Please use this opportunity to focus on staying safe and helping to slow the spread of the virus. As always, thank you for your patience and support as we all work through the COVID-19 Pandemic. Let me start by saying that there is no playbook for doing what we are doing. The game and the rules change daily. Times like these require us to think on our feet and certainly outside of the box! Over the past few days we have had tremendous support from our staff, families, and communities to help get student learning in place while still being aware of the implications and restrictions imposed on us by the COVID-19 Coronavirus. On Wednesday of this week and next, the Pikeland Snack Pack program in conjunction with the Pikeland School District will be at 11 locations in the district handing out grab and go snack pack/meal bags of non-perishable items from 4:30-6:00. This will be a quick pickup process with bags delivered to each vehicle as you arrive.Please stay in your cars when picking up bags, and we will ask for student names as you receive your bag. There will be one bag per family but we will be flexible with families with a large number of kids. Based on recommendations from the Regional Office of Education and the Pike County Health Department, Pikeland Schools will now be closed on Monday, March 16-Monday, March 30. School WILL NOT be open on Monday as previously announced. Teachers in grades K-12 have prepared learning packets for students and these can be picked up tomorrow, Sunday, from 1:00-4:00 at each school. Parents can drive through and pick up packets. PCS pickup will be in the front of the school on both sides. PIttsfield High School Students will be able to come into the building and pick up books and packets from 1:00-4:00 tomorrow. You will be able to pick up packets for other students tomorrow. You will just need to tell us what grade level packet you need when you get to the school. After we get through Sunday, we will put a plan in place to distribute any remaining packets. If you need to pickup medication for your child, please request it when you pick up the packet. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work through this unprecedented situation. We will continue to update you as more information becomes available.
It is has just been announced by Governor Pritzker that all schools in Illinois, public and private, will be closed starting Tuesday, March 17 through March 30. Pikeland Schools WILL be open on Monday, March 16 and we will send learning materials home with your students that day. All school activities, practice, and games will be cancelled starting March 17 as well. We will share more information as we receive it.
