Dear South School Families,
Keeping our Little Braves safe is of utmost importance at South School. Because of this a caution sign has been put up by the south end of the bus lane. The purpose is to pause families from crossing the bus lane before the buses have left each afternoon. It is difficult for the bus drivers to see people on the left hand side of the buses and this new policy could help ensure safety for all. Thank you for working in collaboration with the South School staff to create the safest environment possible for all of our Little Braves.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Allen

Thank you for making decisions with our students as your top priority. Your hard work is the foundation for their achievement. You handle your jobs with grace and enthusiasm. We can't wait to see what else you have in store for our school, thanks again!”

Today was the first Quarterly Party of the year at South School and fun was had by all! A big thank you to the PBIS Student Celebrations Team for planning such a fun event for the Kindergarten - 2nd grade students.

The South School Staff is looking forward to having a spooky, fun time with our Little Braves! Any family member who is interested in volunteering is asked to fill out the Google Form on the Little Braves Boosters Facebook page or email tallen@pikeland.org.

South School would like to give a big 'thank you' to the Pittsfield Fire Department and all of the volunteer firefighters who spent their day with us on Thursday.
Students were welcomed at morning drop off by Marshall the Fire Dog and several firefighters! All classes received a fire safety lesson from the fire department along with a goody bag.
Students were challenged to know where a safe meeting point is for their family if a fire should occur and to know their address in order to tell officers if they have to call 911.
This is an annual event the students and staff always look forward to!

South School's Walk to School Day was a success! Thank you to Mrs. Marable for organizing the event and for all of the staff, students, parents, grandparents, and community members who joined us this morning!

Mrs Frieden’s class earned a class reward for good behavior this quarter. They got to go on a leaf hunt that had school arrows attached to spend at the trading post and they got 10 extra minutes of playground time!

South School will be getting into the Homecoming spirit next week! Our Little Braves can join in any or all days. We will end the week by walking to the Homecoming parade on Friday! Go Saukees!

What a great night at South Elementary School! Tonight we welcomed roughly 175 families at Meet the Teacher Night. The line stretched to the street for a solid hour! We loved meeting new families and welcoming back returning Little Braves. Thank you for making tonight a memorable one for the South staff!

Mrs. Smith’s 2nd graders had a table competition spanning over two weeks. Each table chose a staff member to compete for. At the end of the competition, the winning table got to give Mrs. Wessel her surprise! The students loved working for the benefit of others so much, they are doing it again this week.

During library Miss Bonnett's 2nd grade class was able to enjoy the book 'There Was an Old Lady who Swallowed a Cactus' which was read to them in both English and Spanish by two of their classmates.

In January, Miss Lemons' first grade class started the process of becoming published authors! They brainstormed, researched, wrote rough drafts, revised the drafts, and made illustrations. They sent it back to the company, and the book was published!
Miss Lemons was able to raise enough money to purchase a book for every student in the class! A big shout out to all of the boys and girls on their hard work, this book is amazing!

Just a few pictures of some of the super heroes who visited South School on Friday!

South School Penny Wars
Thank you to the Little Braves Boosters for organizing the Penny Wars at South School last week! Through this fundraiser the students learned about the value of each type of coin, they learned how to use strategy to know which classes to 'bomb', and they helped raise $3,113.40 for the South School classrooms! Congratulations to Mrs. Wessel's class for earning the Pizza Party with the most pennies at $145.91. Congratulations also to Mrs. McNulty's class for earning the Donut Party with the highest overall total of money with $602.95.
